Whether the cause is an accident or disease, we can restore your smile.
Crowns cover & support a tooth with a large filling when there isn’t enough tooth left. They can be used to attach a bridge, protect a weak tooth from breaking or restore one that’s already broken. A crown, also called a cap, is a good way to cover teeth that are discolored or badly shaped as well, or to cover a dental implant. A crown can make your tooth stronger & improve its appearance.
There are several types of crowns, including porcelain, ceramic, resin & metal alloys. The material used can be altered to match the color of your teeth. Our primary concern is keeping your smile bright & healthy, so ask Dr. Calton which type is right for you!
Getting a crown takes two steps: First, we prepare the tooth by taking x-rays & pictures to check the surrounding bone & tissue & filing down the tooth to make room for the crown. Then the crown is made & cemented into place.
A crown acts the same way as a tooth, so after your crowns are placed, you should treat it the same way as well. Continue to brush & floss regularly & see your dentist for regular checkups!
Mercury amalgam (silver) fillings may be hazardous to your health. At About Smiles Dentistry, we believe that the overall health of our patients always comes first. Accordingly, at our office we have elected to only use new & advanced fillings made of tooth-colored materials that contain no metals or mercury. It’s just one more way that we show our patients how much we care. Your safety & smile are our primary concerns!
Tooth Inlays & Onlays
Porcelain inlays & onlays are an excellent & conservative solution to cavity pain, reduced chewing strength & general degeneration of the back teeth. Virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth, inlays & onlays discreetly restore teeth to an optimal state of health. They resemble natural teeth so closely that only you will know the truth. And now with the CEREC system, we can complete same-day inlays & onlays, avoiding the need to use temporaries, which can break, crack or simply fall off, making it even easier on your schedule.
Do you have a missing tooth or a gap in your teeth that you’ve been meaning to replace? Dental implants are essentially permanent, attached teeth that replace partials, bridges or dentures & are a comfortable solution that blend in with your existing teeth. A titanium implant is permanently attached to your bone & a prosthetic tooth (crown) is attached to the implant to make it appear identical to your other teeth. Implants are preferred to bridges because they can improve your bite without damaging neighboring teeth (like a bridge might). Treatment can be finished in three to five visits over the space of about four to 12 months.
Did you know that the days when tooth ailments & cavities could only be treated with unsightly metal fillings are gone? Today, modern tooth-colored fillings made of durable resin or porcelain can be bonded to your teeth for a stronger & more natural-looking effect. These revolutionary fillings are virtually undetectable & are easy to apply.
